Forest Escape: Last Train debuts on Steam with gameplay trailer

Developer FragLab and publisher TwoCakesStudio have announced Forest Escape: Last Train, a co-op horror game set for a public playtest. The title, inspired by Backrooms-style escape games, features a Steam page launch alongside its first gameplay trailer. Players will navigate a surreal forest nightmare, repairing a train to escape a mad warden's realm.

On January 29, 2026, FragLab, a Kyiv-based studio founded in 2017 by veterans of projects like Warface, Crysis, and Battlefield, partnered with indie publisher TwoCakesStudio to unveil Forest Escape: Last Train. This co-op horror exploration game supports 1-4 players and draws inspiration from Backrooms-like escape experiences. The announcement coincides with the game's Steam page going live, offering an initial trailer that showcases its visual style and core mechanics.

In the game, players embody prison escapees trapped in a misty forest warped by the fractured mind of a deranged warden. The objective involves repairing and fueling a locomotive while solving eerie puzzles, mining resources like coal and stones, and evading nightmarish entities. Key features include teaming up for chaotic co-op sessions—balancing horror with absurd humor, such as encountering twig creatures or dancing in abandoned theme parks—or tackling the challenges solo. The train serves as a sanctuary, requiring upgrades and protection amid deadly scavenging runs.

The development team, known for the AAA shooter Shatterline, is in the final stages of polishing content and technical aspects. A public playtest is slated for the near future, with exclusive access available now for press and creators via a sign-up form. Release details remain TBA, with support for platforms limited to PC on Steam and languages including English, French, German, Italian, Spanish, Japanese, Simplified and Traditional Chinese, Korean, Ukrainian, Turkish, and Brazilian Portuguese.

FragLab emphasizes a collaborative creative approach, while TwoCakesStudio focuses on innovative titles across genres like survival horror and strategy. Community engagement is encouraged through Discord, X, and Bluesky channels.
