GameStop has started taking pre-orders for the Pokémon 30th anniversary trading card set at prices well above typical retail levels. The move follows similar actions by other retailers and has drawn criticism from collectors.
The retailer is charging $130 for the Elite Trainer Box of the upcoming set. This price is nearly three times the usual $50 retail cost for such boxes in previous releases.
Customers have voiced concerns online about the increase. One Reddit user stated that the prices are not good for customers and that GameStop is being trashed for the decision.
Another user noted that scalpers are likely to charge even more than $129 for the same box due to high demand. The comments suggest this markup may represent the lowest price some buyers will encounter.
