Giuseppe Rossi believes Inter Milan lacked squad for Champions League success

Former Italy striker Giuseppe Rossi has stated that Inter Milan did not have the squad depth to win the Champions League this season. Despite their unexpected exit against Bodo/Glimt, he views the campaign as a success due to their imminent Serie A title win. Rossi emphasized that the Nerazzurri's primary objective was domestic glory, which they are on track to achieve.

Giuseppe Rossi, a former Manchester United and Italy international striker, shared his analysis of Inter Milan's 2025/26 Champions League performance in an interview with SempreInter.com and The Italian Football Podcast, during an online event hosted by talkSPORT Bet Online Slots.

Rossi argued that Inter lacked the necessary squad strength to claim the European title. "Did Inter have the squad to win the Champions League? I don’t think so," he said. He highlighted that the team's elimination by Bodo/Glimt was disappointing and unforeseen, noting, "We would never have thought that they would lose to Bodo. We never thought they would lose two games."

Despite this setback, Rossi maintains that the season remains successful for Inter. The Nerazzurri hold a 10-point lead in Serie A and are poised to secure the Scudetto, their key preseason goal. "The season is still a success [despite exiting Champions League against Bodo/Glimt]. If you’re able to win the Scudetto, it’s still a success," Rossi explained. "Winning the Scudetto is not a given. Winning anything is not a given."

Regarding the reasons for their Champions League failure, Rossi speculated on possible factors without definitive knowledge. "Why did they [fail in the Champions League]? I have no idea. We don’t know, only the players and coaches fully understand and know. They are around each other 24/7," he pondered. He suggested it could involve mental approach, training, or buildup, but expressed confidence in their ability to improve. "These are things they will learn from. These are things they will get better at, for next year. I’m sure of that."

Rossi also voiced support for Inter's head coach, Cristian Chivu, a former player who understands high-stakes pressures. "Chivu has been a player, he understands the pressures and the way to approach these things. And I’m sure that he will be able to transmit this to the players," he concluded.

Inter's domestic dominance underscores Rossi's perspective, positioning them as Serie A frontrunners while reflecting on their European shortcomings.
