Guillermo Maripán seals Torino's comeback with last-minute goal

Chilean defender Guillermo Maripán emerged as Torino's hero by scoring a stunning goal in the 90th minute to secure a 2-1 victory over Genoa in Serie A. His powerful volley from a corner kick sparked celebrations at the Olympic Stadium in Turin. Maripán, who finished the match as captain, was the standout player.

Genoa, languishing at the bottom of Serie A with just three points from eight matches, desperately needed a win after a dismal start to the season. The rossoblù side, boasting nine titles in its history with the last in 1924, took an early lead through Norwegian Morten Thorsby's goal in the 8th minute, dominating the first half.

The second half brought a turnaround. In the 63rd minute, Stefano Sabelli scored an own goal, leveling the score and dashing Genoa's hopes. Torino, aiming for a second straight victory not achieved since early March in the previous campaign, pressed on.

The drama peaked in stoppage time. Chilean defender Guillermo Maripán rose highest from a corner kick, unleashing a powerful volley into the top corner to complete the 2-1 comeback. Beyond his decisive strike, Maripán delivered an outstanding performance and wore the captain's armband after Nikola Vlasic's departure.

This result lifts Torino to 11th place with 11 points, while Genoa stays rooted at the bottom. Maripán's goal not only secured the points but affirmed his status as a pivotal figure for the granate squad.
