Hope Davis has been cast in the NBC drama pilot 'Protection,' marking her as the second announced actor after Peter Krause. The project, picked up by NBC in January, follows a family of law enforcement agents targeted by a mysterious assassin. Davis will portray Joan, a strong and respected U.S. Marshal.

The storyline centers on the Thornhill family of law enforcement agents. According to the logline, 'When a U.S. Marshal falls in the line of duty, a seemingly cut-and-dry case turns into a deadly conspiracy as a family of law enforcement agents become the target of a mysterious assassin. Bridging personal differences and crossing professional boundaries, the Thornhill family must use the expertise from a lifetime of protecting civilians and politicians to protect one another and bring the killer to justice … even if it means betraying their sworn code.'

Davis takes on the role of Joan, described as 'a federally appointed US Marshal, Joan is strong, steely and commands respect at work.' A three-time Emmy nominee, Davis most recently earned a nomination in the outstanding guest actress in a drama category for her portrayal of Sandi Furness in the HBO series 'Succession.' Her prior nominations include the 2010 TV movie 'The Special Relationship' and the HBO show 'In Treatment.' Recent film roles for Davis feature in Kelly Reichardt’s 'The Mastermind' and Jay Duplass’ 'See You When I See You.' She is represented by UTA and Kipperman Management.

The pilot is written and executive produced by Josh Safran. Additional executive producers are Jenna Bush Hager and Ben Spector. Rebecca Thomas, known for directing episodes of 'Limetown' and 'Stranger Things,' will direct and executive produce the pilot. Universal Television serves as the studio behind the production.
