The suspension stems from an altercation in NHL Game No. 654 between the Calgary Flames and Nashville Predators on Saturday, January 3, 2025, at Scotiabank Saddledome in Calgary. At 13:15 of the first period, Beecher delivered actions deemed roughing against McCarron, resulting in a minor penalty and a 10-minute misconduct for Beecher.
Following the game, which the Flames lost 3-4, the NHL announced that Beecher would attend a hearing with the Department of Player Safety on Sunday, January 4. The hearing focused on the roughing infraction, with the possibility of adjustments to the charge upon review.
On Monday, January 5, the league issued the one-game ban, effective immediately. Under the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement, Beecher's average annual salary calculation leads to the $4,687.50 forfeiture, directed to the Players’ Emergency Assistance Fund.
