Jolla Phone: Detailed specs, modular design and September 2026 launch

Following its successful December 2025 crowdfunding campaign, Finnish company Jolla has revealed finalized details for the privacy-focused Jolla Phone running Sailfish OS. The €649 device features a MediaTek Dimensity 7100 chipset, modular back panel for accessories, physical privacy switch, and user-replaceable battery, with pre-orders open in Europe ahead of a September 2026 release.

Jolla, founded by former Nokia employees, exceeded its crowdfunding goal for the Jolla Phone in December 2025, paving the way for production of this Linux-based smartphone on Sailfish OS. Positioned as a privacy-centric alternative independent of major tech ecosystems, it promises no tracking, data sharing, or hidden analytics.

Now available for pre-order at €649 in select European countries, the device targets a niche market. It runs Android apps via an application layer without requiring a cloud account, distinguishing it from some de-Googled Android options.

Updated hardware specs include the MediaTek Dimensity 7100 5G chipset, with configurable 8GB or 12GB RAM and 256GB storage expandable via microSD. The 6.36-inch FullHD+ AMOLED display is protected by Gorilla Glass. Cameras comprise a 50MP main and 13MP ultrawide rear setup, backed by a tool-free replaceable 5,500mAh battery akin to Fairphone designs.

Key innovations include a modular back panel enabling third-party accessories like extra displays or keyboards, and a physical privacy switch that disables cameras, microphones, and Bluetooth. Available in Snow White, Kaamos Black, and The Orange, the Jolla Phone is scheduled for release in September 2026.
