Judge dismisses charges against former school official in shooting case

A Virginia judge has dismissed all felony charges against a former elementary school assistant principal accused of failing to act on warnings about a 6-year-old student with a gun. The ruling came during the fourth day of her trial in Newport News.

Circuit Judge Rebecca Robinson dismissed the eight counts of child neglect against Ebony Parker on Thursday. She stated that the court was of the legal opinion that this is not a crime. Parker had faced the charges related to the January 2023 shooting at Richneck Elementary School, where the student wounded teacher Abby Zwerner.
