Pondok Buntet Pesantren in Cirebon has confirmed KH Hasanuddin Kriyani as its new sesepuh through a unanimous decision by the Dewan Sepuh following istikharah prayers.
The confirmation was announced during the 40-day commemoration of the passing of KH Adib Rofiuddin Izza. KH Amiruddin read out the decision before masyayikh, santri, alumni and the wider pesantren family on Saturday 11 July 2026.
The Dewan Sepuh stated that the selection involved spiritual effort through istikharah prayers seeking Allah SWT's guidance before reaching unanimous agreement. KH Amiruddin said the leadership mandate is a spiritual responsibility to be accounted for before Allah SWT.
In addition to appointing the new sesepuh, the pesantren strengthened the Dewan Sepuh by adding KH Ahmad Syukrie Said and KH Ade Moh Nasih. The current Dewan Sepuh comprises KH Hasanuddin Kriyani as sesepuh and seven other members.
