Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson stresses the importance of an orderly process as Europe takes greater responsibility within Nato. He plans to discuss the issue with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio at the meeting in Helsingborg.
Nato's 32 foreign ministers gather in Helsingborg for meetings and dinner. Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson and Foreign Minister Maria Malmer Stenergard will hold a bilateral meeting with Marco Rubio on Friday.
Kristersson says Sweden will be friendly, constructive and clear. He wants to inform about Sweden's defense reinforcements and stress the need for the US to keep allies informed of long-term plans.
Rubio has criticized other Nato countries for insufficient support in the conflict with Iran, including around the Strait of Hormuz. Malmer Stenergard plans to raise continued support for Ukraine.
Reports of a plan B for a possible US withdrawal have been rejected by Swedish ministers. Kjell Engelbrekt from the Swedish Defence University sees political uncertainty but does not expect Rubio to undermine unity.
