Land reclamation work begins at Henoko for U.S. base transfer

Fresh land reclamation work has started at Henoko to support the planned relocation of the U.S. Marine Corps Futenma air station from another city in Okinawa.

The reclamation began on June 17 at the Henoko site. It forms part of a long-standing project to move the Futenma facility.

The work is tied to U.S.-Japan defense cooperation in Okinawa. The Defense Ministry is handling the reclamation efforts.
