Liverpool's season hit a new low as they were hammered 0-3 by Nottingham Forest at Anfield on November 22, 2025. The Reds, who started brightly, conceded from their first real threat when Elliot Anderson's corner evaded Virgil van Dijk, allowing Murillo to sweep the ball past Alisson Becker. This came after early chances for Liverpool, including Cody Gakpo squaring for Alexis Mac Allister, whose shot was blocked on the line by Anderson in the ninth minute, and efforts from Milos Kerkez, Gakpo and Dominik Szoboszlai.
Nottingham Forest nearly doubled their lead three minutes later, but Igor Jesus's goal was disallowed for handball. Mac Allister headed wide before halftime, saved by Matz Sels. Morgan Gibbs-White sealed the win 12 minutes from time, powering in after Alisson saved from Omari Hutchinson. The result left Liverpool 11th in the table, while Forest moved out of the relegation zone.
Van Dijk told PLP: "We were not good in terms of battles, challenges, the fight, too rushed. It's a very difficult situation at the moment." He added: "Losing at home to Nottingham Forest is, in my eyes, very bad. We all have to look in the mirror."
Slot admitted: "Another big disappointment. We started off quite well for the first half an hour. We conceded the 1-0, and we weren’t able to play the way we did. If things go well or things go bad, it’s my responsibility." Liverpool face PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League midweek.
