Macy's 2025 Thanksgiving Day Parade showcases performers and new balloons

The 99th annual Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade marched through New York City on Thursday, featuring a star-studded lineup of performers and innovative floats and balloons. Highlights included appearances by Cynthia Erivo, Lainey Wilson, and Ciara, alongside new balloons representing popular media characters. The event was broadcast live on NBC and Peacock, drawing millions to celebrate the holiday.

Parade Overview

The parade kicked off at 8:30 a.m. ET and ran until 12 p.m., with an encore airing at 2 p.m. on NBC and Peacock. It featured 34 balloons and 28 floats, traveling from Manhattan's Upper West Side to Macy's Herald Square flagship store. Cold, wintry conditions in NYC, influenced by a strong front from Canada, added a festive chill, with highs 5 to 15 degrees below average.

Performers and Highlights

Cynthia Erivo, star of 'Wicked,' opened the event with a rendition of 'Feeling Good.' Country artist Lainey Wilson performed a medley including 'Peace, Love and Cowboys' and 'Somewhere Over Laredo.' Ciara discussed her upcoming performance of new songs, her Times Square flash mob, and turning 40 during a 'TODAY' show appearance. Other acts included the Radio City Rockettes marking their 100th year, Kool & The Gang, Foreigner, and Christopher Jackson. The stars of Netflix's 'KPop Demon Hunters' also joined the festivities.

Balloons and Floats

New balloons debuted featuring Buzz Lightyear from 'Toy Story,' Nintendo's Super Mario, Spider-Man, and SpongeBob. Derpy and Sussie from 'KPop Demon Hunters' appeared as a balloon and balloonicle, while Labubus collectible dolls got their own float. Additional new floats highlighted 'Stranger Things' and a Lego-themed design. Al Roker, marking 30 years of coverage, reported alongside Dylan Dreyer, who previewed the creations with director of operations Kathleen Wright and creative director Brendan Kennedy.

Grand Finale

The parade concluded with Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus arriving on a sleigh filled with presents, accompanied by 'snow' effects and waving to crowds. The Rockettes added high-energy dance routines to the finale.
