Manchester City beat Borussia Dortmund 4-1 in Champions League

Manchester City secured a 4-1 victory over Borussia Dortmund in their UEFA Champions League league phase match on November 5, 2025. Phil Foden starred with a brace, while Erling Haaland added his fifth goal of the competition. The win moves City into the top four of the standings.

Manchester City hosted Borussia Dortmund at the Etihad Stadium for Matchday 4 of the 2025/26 UEFA Champions League league phase. The home side took control early, with Phil Foden opening the scoring in the 22nd minute via a precise finish into the far corner. Erling Haaland extended the lead five minutes before halftime, powering home his fifth goal of the season and continuing his scoring streak in all three of City's matches so far.

Dortmund pulled one back in the 72nd minute through Waldemar Anton, but Foden restored the two-goal advantage in the 57th minute with a clever curled effort after finding space between defenders. Rayan Cherki sealed the win in stoppage time with City's fourth goal. The result marks City's third win in four league phase games, placing them fourth in the table behind Bayern Munich, Arsenal, and Inter.

Foden, speaking to TNT Sports post-match, reflected on his performance: "I was surprised how much space I got. I found myself in space at the right time and I just got my head up." He added on the team's dynamic: "There's a new togetherness this season and you can tell. Today Dortmund caused us some problems, they are a great team, but we stuck to the plan and broke them down with our talent up front."

Pep Guardiola praised Foden's return to form: "He is already there [back to his best]. He got two incredible goals. How many times have we seen that from Phil?" On Haaland's record-breaking form, Guardiola noted: "Every time I come here or to the press conference you tell me he broke a new record. I am happy for him."

Bernardo Silva came off the bench to make his 100th Champions League appearance. City now look ahead to domestic challenges while maintaining momentum in Europe.
