The Cameroon international, who previously scored three times against Spurs while at Brentford, capitalized on United's dominance in the first half, where they created several chances including a penalty appeal against Richarlison.
Tottenham struggled for attacking impetus after the break, with goalkeeper Senne Lammens making key saves from Cristian Romero and Joao Palhinha. However, the game ignited in the final stages. Substitute Mathys Tel leveled the score six minutes from time, turning inside the box and firing past Lammens with a deflection off de Ligt.
Richarlison then nodded in Wilson Odobert's shot in stoppage time, appearing to seal a comeback win and end Tottenham's three-game winless streak. De Ligt, speaking to TNT Sports, said: “Luckily we got a point, I think we deserved more the way we played... I’m proud of how the team fought back and got a point at a difficult stadium.” He added that the draws against Tottenham and Nottingham Forest last week show progress, noting: “Last year we lost against Nottingham Forest and Tottenham 1-0, but last week and today you see we have the fire in our bellies.”
Tel told BBC Sport: “This is football... We get one but we deserved to win this game. Like I say we need to stay positive and keep going.”
United remain seventh in the table, unbeaten in five across all competitions under Ruben Amorim, while third-placed Tottenham have now taken just two points from their last five home league games.
