Mexico and United States conclude first round of T-MEC review talks

Mexico and the United States concluded the first formal round of talks to review the T-MEC last week in Mexico City.

The Ministry of Economy and the Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR) ended meetings held from May 28 to 29. Both sides described the outcome as positive.

The U.S. delegation was led by Jeffrey Goettman and included bipartisan lawmakers and business representatives. Washington raised topics including economic security, rules of origin, and agriculture.

The United States proposed raising regional auto content to 82 percent, with at least 50 percent from the United States. Marcelo Ebrard replied that the specific quota is unsustainable and defended the current regional approach.

The next round will take place in Washington on June 16 and 17, followed by a third session in Mexico City the week of July 20.
