Michael Stipe released the track Hum Desiderata on July 26 exclusively via the Joyfully Waiting website. The song combines a recording from his 2023 ICA Milan installation with an instrumental version of the unreleased track Hum from his upcoming solo album.
The R.E.M. frontman wrote and produced the song with Andy Lemaster. Additional vocals were provided by Athens, Georgia-based artist Elizabeth Hatmaker.
The release offers another preview of Stipe's debut solo album, whose title remains undisclosed. He first announced the project during an April appearance on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, where he performed the unreleased song The Rest of Ever.
Stipe also recently wrote the theme song I Played The Fool for the Apple TV series Rooster starring Steve Carell, collaborating with Andrew Watt on the track.
