The Ministry of Education has announced reopening the KJSEA placement revision portal from December 23 to allow parents and learners to make changes. This follows widespread dissatisfaction among parents over the criteria for placing their children in senior secondary schools. Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba stated that the five-day window will help align choices better with interests and performance.
The Ministry of Education has announced the reopening of the Kenya Junior School Education Assessment (KJSEA) placement revision portal starting December 23. This comes two days after the official release of placement results for Grade 10 learners on December 19.
Parents and junior school heads have been advised to submit concerns through junior school heads, with approvals based on available capacity in senior schools. According to the Ministry, the placement was fully automated, considering learners' choices, KJSEA performance, psychometric test results, equity considerations, and school capacity.
Many parents who received messages on December 20 questioned the criteria used, with some claiming the automated system has yet to provide feedback. Several attempts to access results failed despite using the correct assessment number. An error message read: "Dear learner, the requested information is unavailable, or the assessment number does not exist. Confirm that your assessment number is accurate."
One parent lamented: "The assessment number is the same one I used in getting the results. So how will I explain to my child that his results are unavailable?" Other parents have raised concerns over placements in schools far from their residences, which they say could stress the learners.
Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba noted that the five-day window would allow necessary revisions to better align choices with interests and performance. Results can be checked by sending the KNEC assessment number via SMS to 22263 or through the Ministry's portal at placements.education.go.ke.
