Modi flags off India's first hydrogen-powered train

Prime Minister Narendra Modi flagged off India's first hydrogen-powered passenger train on Friday, linking Jind and Sonipat in Haryana.

The train, with 10 coaches, can carry up to 2,600 passengers. It will cover the 89-kilometre section in about two hours at a maximum speed of 75 kmph, stopping at 14 stations.

The zero-emission service marks India's entry into hydrogen train technology. Northern Railway will soon announce the start of commercial operations.

After the flag-off at Jind, Modi said future references to hydrogen trains will mention Jind, Sonipat and Haryana, just as the first train in 1853 is linked to Mumbai and Thane.
