Newsoms deflect questions on DOJ probes at Obama Center

California Governor Gavin Newsom and his wife Jennifer Siebel Newsom faced questions about federal investigations into their finances while attending the opening ceremony of the Obama Presidential Center. The exchange occurred on live television two days ago.

MSNBC correspondent Jacob Soboroff asked Jennifer Siebel Newsom directly about the probes. She replied, “I’m just so grateful for this inspiration and leadership. We need more of this!”

Gavin Newsom then interjected. He said, “This is stuff that happens in other countries, that’s all I’ll say. Happens in other countries. He wants to go after me — go after me.”

Hours earlier Newsom had posted a video accusing President Donald Trump of directing the Department of Justice to target him and his wife. A source told The Daily Wire that multiple investigations are underway, including one into Jennifer Siebel Newsom’s taxes that began in 2025 and another into Newsom’s former chief of staff that dates to the Biden administration. None target the governor himself.

The U.S. Department of Justice has dropped its criminal investigation into Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell over cost overruns at the central bank's headquarters renovation. The move, announced by U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro on Friday, shifts scrutiny to the Fed's inspector general and clears a path for Senate confirmation of President Trump's nominee Kevin Warsh. The probe had been criticized as an effort to pressure Powell amid disputes over interest rates.
