Pan Africanist Congress leader Mzwanele Nyhontso stated that unemployment and poverty, not foreign nationals, represent South Africa's primary challenges.
Nyhontso spoke at the party's Africa Month celebrations in Centane in the Eastern Cape. He called for a focus on job creation and economic growth instead.
"It is not about foreign nationals. It is about the country not creating jobs. It is about the economy of the country not growing," Nyhontso said. He added that an African can never be a foreigner in Africa.
Nyhontso condemned groups stopping people on the street to demand papers. He urged police to enforce the law and warned against lawlessness.
