A new indoor padel facility, Padel Point, has launched in Wrexham, attracting quick interest from local players. Owned by Sarah and David Toner, the venue at Felin Puleston Industrial Estate features three courts and aims to serve the community with free sessions for schools and charities. The sport, blending tennis and squash, is gaining popularity in the UK.
Padel Point officially opened on Monday, February 2, at Unit 2 of the Felin Puleston Industrial Estate in Wrexham. The facility, set up by local couple Sarah and David Toner, addresses the growing demand for padel courts in the area. The owners noted a need for more accessible venues and chose an indoor setup to cater to year-round play.
"We believe that sport has the power to bring people together, and we saw an exciting opportunity to introduce something new, accessible, and energising to the local area," the Toners said. As a family-run business deeply rooted in Wrexham, they emphasized community ties: "It's really important to us to be able to give back to our community and throughout our off peak hours we will be offering local schools and charities free Padel sessions."
Upon visiting, staff member Max reported brisk bookings, especially for after-work slots. During a morning visit, two courts were in use: one by a group of four friends and another by Gary Roberts from Llangollen and Stu Brooks. Roberts, who works at Cadbury's in Chirk, praised the convenience. "Before this opened, I had to travel to the courts by Chester's football ground, so this is now very handy and in a good spot here," he said. "I work at Cadbury's (Chirk) and I come here in between shifts, it's a really good facility. The owners have really listened to what the community wants."
Padel, originating in Spain, combines elements of tennis and squash. It is typically played in doubles on an enclosed court with glass and mesh walls that integrate into gameplay. Bookings can be made via the facility's Facebook page or by emailing info@padelpointwrexham.com.
The venue includes a lounge area alongside its three courts, enhancing the social aspect of the sport. With padel's global rise—millions play worldwide—this Wrexham addition supports its expansion in the UK.
