This Monday, the results of the Prueba de Acceso a la Educación Superior (PAES) for the 2026 Admission were released, showing a general increase in the averages of the obligatory tests by 10 points, from 610 to 620. All evaluations rose except for Sciences, which fell from 487 to 473. Additionally, there were 2,861 national scores, nearly a thousand more than the previous year.

The PAES 2025 results, announced this Monday, reveal a positive trend in average scores. Of the 300,596 registered, 257,750 took at least one test, and 231,060 were enabled to apply to universities, 54 more than last year. The average of the obligatory tests, Competencia Lectora and Matemática 1, rose from 610 to 620 points.

Specifically, Competencia Lectora went from 596 to 609, Matemática 1 from 625 to 631, Historia y Ciencias Sociales from 501 to 510, and Matemática 2 from 418 to 424. Only Sciences recorded a drop, from 487 to 473. Leonor Varas, director of Demre, highlighted the stability: “The averages of the tests, all in general, remain quite stable,” and noted that the rise in obligatory ones explains the higher number enabled.

Regarding national scores (1,000 points), 2,861 were achieved, a record compared to the 1,942 from the previous year. The majority, 2,754, were in Matemática 1, with at least one per region. Additionally, 36 people achieved two perfect scores, benefiting 2,825 students in total.

The Distinciones a las Trayectorias Educativas (DTE) were awarded in 325 cases to 292 people, 21 fewer than before. Categories include Disability (12 beneficiaries, +33.3%), Indigenous Peoples (70, significant increase from 48), Teaching Modality (+10.5%), and Territories (drop of 35). Minister Nicolás Cataldo emphasized: “Today there are more opportunities to enter higher education.”

Experts like Mauricio Bravo see the test stabilized after four years, fulfilling its objective, while Edmundo Concha notes annual variations and a maturing syllabus. Applications run from January 5 to 8, with selection on the 19th and enrollments from 20 to 29.

Discussions on X positively note the overall score increases from 610 to 620 and record 2,861 national scores, with the government highlighting sustained progress in key subjects. Concerns focus on the sciences average dropping from 487 to 473, calling for more scientists. Criticism targets public education, as only one municipal school ranks in the top 100, attributing it to policy failures.

The Simce 2025 application for eighth grade faced issues on October 22, when examiners from the company Infer failed to arrive at 146 schools in the Metropolitan Region, suspending the Math and Sciences test. Authorities rescheduled the affected evaluations and will impose sanctions on the provider, while defending the process's validity. The incident affects only 2.4% of national establishments, within usual parameters.

On Thursday, November 13, 2025, 554,174 students across South Korea took the annual college entrance exam. The number marks the highest in seven years, partly due to the elevated birth rate in 2007, the Year of the Golden Pig. The government implemented measures like flight restrictions and extra subway runs to support the test-takers.

Achieving a bachelor’s pass in South Africa’s National Senior Certificate exams marks a minimum threshold but does not ensure entry into university programmes. Universities rely on a more competitive Admission Point Score system, leaving thousands of qualified matriculants without spaces. Alternative pathways exist for those who fall short.
