AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami criticised the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam-led government for negotiating solatium payments to families of two people who reportedly died in custody.
In a statement issued on Saturday, Mr. Palaniswami said the approach had saddened people in the state. He noted that Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay had assumed office only two months earlier.
Mr. Palaniswami advised the chief minister against a hands-off approach to governance. He urged Mr. Vijay to run the government in a way that would not disappoint the public.
Separately, Mr. Palaniswami reviewed the AIADMK’s performance in the Nilgiris, Karur, and Virudhunagar districts. He announced that Amma Peravai state secretary R.B. Udhaya Kumar would begin district-wise reviews from July 25.
