The parents of Sarthak Mattoo, killed in a hit-and-run on June 25 in South Delhi, are seeking justice after the accused driver was released on bail.
Sarthak Mattoo, 34, died after a Mahindra Thar struck his motorcycle near the Rajokri flyover around 6:30 am while he was heading to work in Noida. The driver, Apurv Singh, 30, was arrested on June 27 but released on bail shortly afterward under Section 106(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which remains in abeyance due to truckers’ protests.
Anuradha and Surender Mattoo, Kashmiri Pandits living in Gurgaon, expressed their grief and frustration. “I don’t know how to take out my anger and on whom,” Anuradha said. Surender recorded a video appeal to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, asking why those responsible have not been punished.
The SUV was registered to a Bengaluru company and leased to Sagar Saha, who told police that Apurv was driving. Police said the vehicle was seized and the accused identified within a day. The family noted they received limited information from authorities on the bail decision.
