Patricia Bullrich to lead LLA bloc in the Senate

Security Minister Patricia Bullrich will take over as head of the La Libertad Avanza (LLA) Senate bloc starting December 10. She replaces Ezequiel Atauche and faces the challenge of negotiating key reforms for Javier Milei's government. Bullrich thanked the president and his sister Karina for the appointment.

Patricia Bullrich, current Security Minister, has been appointed as the new head of the La Libertad Avanza (LLA) Senate bloc in Argentina's Congress. She will replace Ezequiel Atauche, who led the bloc for two years, and assume the role on December 10. President Javier Milei aims to place a trusted figure to limit Vice President Victoria Villarruel's influence in Congress.

Bullrich, elected senator in the October 26 elections, will lead a bloc of 20 lawmakers: seven current from the officialism and allies, plus 12 newly elected and the PRO's Carmen Álvarez Rivero from Córdoba. In her first meeting with future bloc members, she exchanged views on the group's operations.

"Thank you for trusting me to lead the LLA bloc in the Senate. Important reforms are coming for Argentines and I will do everything to achieve the changes the country needs", Bullrich stated upon confirming her appointment, thanking Javier and Karina Milei.

Her main challenge will be negotiating deals with other parties to reach the 37-senator quorum and pass key projects, such as the 2026 Budget and labor and tax reforms that the government will send in extraordinary sessions. She must build consensus with the nine UCR senators, four from PRO, and provincial representatives from Santa Cruz, Misiones, Corrientes, Córdoba, and Chubut.

Ezequiel Atauche welcomed the transition: "It has been an honor to preside over the bloc for these two years and I know that together with Patricia Bullrich we will work from sunup to sundown to advance the agreements Argentina needs to be great again". On X, he added that Bullrich "will be a fundamental piece in the new Congress and I trust her leadership to face the transformations ahead".

The officialism must also decide on the provisional Senate presidency: whether to keep Bartolomé Abdala or appoint Neuquén's Nadia Márquez, elected on October 26.
