Pep Guardiola holds talks with Italy over coaching role

Pep Guardiola has held talks about becoming Italy's new head coach following his departure from Manchester City. Italian FA technical director Paolo Maldini and advisor Leonardo visited Barcelona over the weekend to discuss the position.

According to Sky Italia, the discussions focus on a swift return for the Catalan coach after a decade at the Etihad Stadium. During that time he secured six Premier League titles and the 2023 Champions League trophy.

The FIGC is also considering Roberto Mancini, Antonio Conte and Andrea Pirlo as possible successors to Gennaro Gattuso, who left after Italy failed to qualify for this year's World Cup. New FIGC president Giovanni Malago told Sky Sport 24 that an appointment could come within days.

Guardiola said last week he felt no immediate urge to return to management. He explained that he wanted time away to spend with family and explore interests outside football.
