Phillies and Covenant House raise over $1 million at sleep out event

The Philadelphia Phillies and Covenant House hosted the first Sleep Out at Citizens Bank Park last week, raising more than $1 million for youth homelessness. Participants spent the night at the ballpark, hearing stories from residents who overcame homelessness and learning ways to support young people in need. The event featured special guests including former Phillies stars Cole Hamels, Larry Bowa, and others.

Last week, the Philadelphia Phillies partnered with Covenant House to host the inaugural Sleep Out at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia. This charity event brought together fundraisers who spent the night at the iconic ballpark to raise awareness and funds for homeless youth. Attendees heard firsthand accounts from Covenant House residents who have overcome homelessness, connected with fellow advocates, and learned practical ways to support young people facing adversity.

Special guests added star power to the evening, including 2008 World Series MVP Cole Hamels, 1980 World Series champions Larry Bowa and Dickie Noles, 1993 National League champions Tommy Greene, Mickey Morandini, and Milt Thompson, as well as broadcaster Ruben Amaro Jr. Their presence highlighted the Phillies' ongoing commitment to community causes.

The Sleep Out raised over $1 million, marking the highest amount in Pennsylvania Sleep Out history. This success underscores the urgency of addressing youth homelessness, with more than 4.2 million young people experiencing it annually in the U.S. In Philadelphia, over 10,000 children and youth faced homelessness last year alone. Covenant House Pennsylvania has provided safe shelter and services to youth for 25 years, making events like this vital for their mission.
