On December 25, 2025, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Rashtra Prerna Sthal in Lucknow, developed as a historic national memorial on the 101st birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. Built at a cost of approximately ₹230 crore over 65 acres, the complex honors Vajpayee's contributions alongside those of Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee and Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay through 65-foot bronze statues symbolizing India's political thought and nation-building.
The site includes a state-of-the-art museum shaped like a lotus flower, spanning 98,000 square feet. It uses advanced digital and immersive technology to showcase India's national journey and the leaders' roles. Viewed as a national asset, it aims to inspire future generations with lessons in leadership, service, and cultural awareness.
On the eve of the anniversary, events in Lucknow featured speeches by prominent figures. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, at a poetry recital organized by the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Memorial Foundation, stated, “Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s stature was defined not by the positions he held but by his deeds and personality.” He highlighted Vajpayee's role in making India a nuclear power and advancing self-reliance, reciting lines from Vajpayee's poems like “Haar nahin maanunga, raah nayi thaanunga.”
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, addressing the ‘Atal Geet Ganga’ programme alongside Singh, released a booklet titled ‘Atal Mahanayak’ and remarked, “Atal ji always maintained a dialogue with the Opposition.” He praised Vajpayee's coalition governance, respect for dissent, and reforms marking Good Governance Day. Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak described Vajpayee as “a protector of national interests, an inspiration for social harmony, and a strong sentinel of democracy,” noting his poetry's impact in Parliament.
A three-time Prime Minister in 1996, 1998, and 1999, Vajpayee represented Lucknow in the Lok Sabha five times from 1991 to 2009. The memorial preserves his legacy as a statesman, poet, and orator.
