Police probe disappearance of realtor in Goiás condo basement

Real estate broker Daiane Alves Souza, 43, vanished on December 17, 2025, while heading to the basement of her condo in Caldas Novas, Goiás, to check a power outage in her apartment. Security cameras captured her descent but show no record of her returning or leaving the building. Goiás Civil Police are leading a task force to solve the mystery.

Daiane Alves Souza, a 43-year-old real estate broker, vanished a month ago on December 17, 2025, in the condo where she lived alone in Caldas Novas, southern Goiás. Around 7 p.m., she headed to the basement to investigate a power outage affecting only her apartment, while the rest of the building had electricity. Dressed in a black blouse, green shorts, and flip-flops, Daiane recorded a video on her phone, which she sent to a friend, complaining about sudden blackouts unique to her unit. In the elevator, she chatted with another resident, suggesting someone might be tampering with her meter intentionally, despite paid bills.

Security footage shows Daiane entering the elevator and descending to the basement, but there are no records of her returning or exiting via the main gate. The basement has just one camera with limited coverage, and the energy meters area is unmonitored. Her phone has been off since the disappearance, and a court-authorized bank secrecy breach revealed no financial activity to aid the search.

Daiane's mother, Nilse Alves, filed a police report the next day after searching family apartments in the same building and local health units. "I need my family. I hope she is found alive, despite the time. We try to prepare for the worst, but there's no way. A mother doesn't give up on her daughter," Nilse told Folha in an interview on Friday (16). The family, from Uberlândia in Minas Gerais, owns six apartments in the condo, and Daiane moved there two years ago to manage them.

The probe, now handled by the Homicide Squad, highlights prior disputes: Daiane had lawsuits against the condo, and in 2025 an assembly voted to evict her for alleged excessive noise (52 of 58 residents in favor), but a preliminary court ruling quashed it due to procedural flaws. Suspicions include kidnapping, possibly via a camera blind spot. Goiás Civil Police formed a task force, interviewed witnesses, and conducted technical analyses, urging public tips with anonymity assured. The condo administration did not respond to inquiries.
