Prime Video sets May 15 release for 'It's Not Like That'

Prime Video will stream all eight episodes of the family drama 'It's Not Like That' on Friday, May 15. The series stars Scott Foley as a widowed minister and father of three, and Erinn Hayes as his late wife's best friend, a recently divorced mother of two. Creators Ian Deitchman and Kristin Robinson highlight its themes of grief, friendship, and hope.

Scott Foley plays Malcolm, a minister navigating life after losing his wife, while Erinn Hayes portrays Lori, whose close friendship with Malcolm's family adds complexity to their bond. TVLine has learned exclusively that the show, previously available only via Wonder Project subscription, marks a new streaming venture for the duo behind the 2010 film 'Life As We Know It' starring Josh Duhamel and Katherine Heigl. Deitchman explained the title's meaning: 'One of the reasons the show is called 'It's Not Like That' is because we tend to go through life looking at things through our own narrow lens. What you're seeing and experiencing is always so much bigger, and if people could embrace life with a sense of grace, the world would be a better place.' The creators emphasize the 'incredible chemistry' between Foley and Hayes as they explore questions of grief, love, and family ties. Robinson noted the show's hopeful tone: 'It suggests that with the help of friends and loved ones, you can really get through anything,' adding that drama and humor 'go hand in hand.' Deitchman compared it to favorites like 'Parenthood,' 'This Is Us,' and 'Friday Night Lights,' saying it fits the broadcast network style once common on NBC. The cast also includes J. R. Ramirez as David, Caleb Baumann Merritt, Cary Christopher as Justin, Leven Miranda as Flora, Cassidy Paul as Penelope, Liv Lindell as Casey, and Tyner Rushing as Jenny.
