Public transport drivers evade toll on Mexico City's second-floor highway

Nearly a hundred motorists and public transport drivers enter the Second Floor of Periférico at the Sóstenes Rocha entrance without paying. Arturo Hernández from the Los Supercívicos channel recorded units from route 25-01 Naucalpan evading the toll booth. A worker reports up to 100 evasions per shift.

In a video shared on social media, Arturo Hernández, known as 'Comandante' and founder of the Los Supercívicos channel, documented how public transport drivers slow down, lightly hit the toll barrier, and accelerate to continue toward the State of Mexico without paying at the Sóstenes Rocha entrance to the Second Floor of Periférico.

According to a booth worker, each shift sees 80 to 100 evasions, but staff cannot block the units' passage. They only warn drivers and reset the barrier. It is unknown whether the units lack the TAG device or sufficient balance for payment.

Hernández confronted some drivers, who showed disinterest upon realizing he was not an authority. One replied: “As Mexicans, I can drive on my highways,” while having only a rear license plate on his vehicle. Others smiled at the complaints and proceeded unconcerned.

A month earlier, another video revealed an alternative method: vehicles without TAG get too close to the one ahead to pass simultaneously, a risky maneuver that could lead to collisions. This behavior appears routine and has not been discouraged by authorities, unlike tire spikes on highways in the State of Mexico.

According to Caminos y Puentes Federales (Capufe), the TAG costs 90 pesos with a minimum recharge of 200 pesos.
