Senator Mirosevic declines state trip to vote on Grau accusation

Senator Vlado Mirosevic announced he will not join President José Antonio Kast on his state visit to Paraguay and Uruguay in order to stay in Chile and vote on Tuesday June 30 in the constitutional accusation against former minister Nicolás Grau.

Mirosevic, of the Liberal Party, had initially accepted the president’s invitation but declined it after learning the date of the Senate floor vote. The lawmaker stated that “it is my responsibility to be there that day in the Senate chamber” to review and vote on the accusation.

The senator confirmed he will vote against the bill. Approval requires at least 26 votes and the ruling bloc holds exactly that number among its own members and allies, although two senators will not take part.

Luciano Cruz-Coke of Evópoli disqualified himself and Manuel José Ossandón of RN has constitutional leave from June 29. The session is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday.
