Series co-creator Bill Lawrence revealed that Shrinking's Season 3 finale will conclude its original three-season story on grief, forgiveness, and moving forward, with Season 4—previously renewed in January—starting a fresh narrative featuring the same ensemble cast.
Bill Lawrence shared the update on X ahead of the Season 3 finale streaming April 8, 2026. He wrote: 'Season finale and end of this three season story next week. Hope you dig it. (Excited to start completely new story next year. Feels scary/risky/fun).' Lawrence noted the show was pitched as a three-season arc: 'We always pitched a three season story on #Shrinking grief-forgiveness-moving forward. We wanted to stay true to that and end the way we planned. (So excited to do Season 4 and a new story with the same cast.)' He stressed the cast's return: 'there is a Season 4 with the EXACT same cast (that's why we are doing it, we love each other).' The ensemble stars Jason Segel as therapist Jimmy Laird, Harrison Ford as Dr. Paul Rhoades, Jessica Williams, Luke Tennie, Lukita Maxwell, Christa Miller, Michael Urie, and Ted McGinley. Season 3 has included guests like Brett Goldstein, Damon Wayans Jr., Wendie Malick, Cobie Smulders, Michael J. Fox, Jeff Daniels, Candice Bergen, Sherry Cola, and Isabella Gomez. Apple TV+ renewed the series for Season 4 in January 2026 before the Season 3 premiere. Shrinking has received Emmy nominations for Segel, Ford, Williams, Urie, and Outstanding Comedy Series at the 2025 Emmys, plus Golden Globe nods for Segel and Ford.
