Sörloth scores brace in Atlético's win over Oviedo

Alexander Sörloth scored twice in the first half-hour to secure a comfortable 2-0 win for Atlético de Madrid against bottom-placed Real Oviedo at the Metropolitano. Simeone's side dominated from start to finish, with eyes on the upcoming clash against Barcelona. This victory marks Atlético's sixth consecutive league win.

Atlético de Madrid comfortably beat Real Oviedo 2-0 in a match settled in the first 30 minutes, courtesy of Alexander Sörloth's brace. The Norwegian opened the scoring in the 10th minute, assisted by David Hancko after Álex Baena's pass threaded through a defender's legs. Griezmann just missed the cross, but Sörloth tapped in unchallenged.

Ten minutes later, Hancko again found Sörloth, who dragged his marker and struck a first-time left-footed shot that rebounded off his defender before volleying home. This put Atlético ahead for the 14th time in 14 matchdays, a historic record. Koke, cheered for reaching 702 appearances for the club, provided composure in midfield alongside Gallagher.

Simeone rotated without Giménez, Barrios, Giuliano, and Julián Álvarez, focusing on the Camp Nou clash. Pubill debuted as a starter at center-back, showing promise, while Oblak returned as a mere spectator. The suffocated Oviedo rarely threatened, with Cazorla's passes leading to Viñas' header and Hassan's shot, acknowledged by the Metropolitano crowd.

In the second half, Oviedo upped the pressure, but Simeone subbed Baena for Giuliano and later brought on Barrios and Álvarez to regain control. Chances for Gallagher or Giuliano went unconverted, and Atlético claimed three vital points before heading to Barcelona.
