Spotify partners with Bookshop.org for physical book sales

Spotify has launched physical book sales in the US and UK through a partnership with Bookshop.org. Users can now order books via the Spotify app, with proceeds supporting local bookstores and authors. The company also expanded its audiobook features, including new languages and charts.

Spotify announced on April 15 a partnership with Bookshop.org to offer physical books for purchase directly in its app. The service is available today for users in the US and UK on Android, with iOS support starting next week. Purchases through Bookshop.org help fund local bookstores and authors, aligning with the platform's mission to support independent sellers and creators. Spotify stated that this marks a significant expansion of its book offerings beyond digital formats. Since introducing audiobooks in 2022, Spotify's catalog has grown nearly fivefold, from 150,000 to 700,000 titles. The Page Match feature, launched in February, now supports 30 additional languages, including French, German, and Swedish. Spotify reported that Page Match users listen to 55% more audiobook hours per week, and 62% of matched titles represent books users had not previously streamed. Other updates include Audiobook Recaps for Android users and expanded Audiobook Charts, now available in Germany. A new Kids & Family Audiobook Chart launched in the US, UK, and Germany, mirroring the music and podcast charts by ranking titles based on listener engagement. These changes position Spotify deeper into the book market, blending physical, audiobook, and reading experiences.
