Stardew Valley Switch 2 update adds multiplayer features amid launch issues

Stardew Valley's surprise Switch 2 update, released on Christmas Day, introduces mouse controls, four-player local co-op, and eight-player online support. However, players report connection errors and resource bugs, with developer ConcernedApe pledging quick fixes.

Following its shadowdrop on the Nintendo Switch 2 eShop on December 25, 2025, Stardew Valley—ConcernedApe's 2016 indie farming sim—has rolled out a free upgrade enhancing the $15 title. Key additions include mouse control support, split-screen four-player local co-op, up to eight players in online multiplayer, and Game Share for cross-Switch local play without individual ownership.

This keeps the game vibrant on new hardware, even as the developer prepares Haunted Chocolatier for future release.

Launch hiccups have surfaced, including online connection failures and erroneous crafting resource costs. ConcernedApe addressed this on X: “I am aware that there are some issues with the nintendo switch 2 edition that just dropped. I take full responsibility for this mistake. We will fix this as soon as possible.” Players unable to download via eShop can try deleting and reinstalling as a workaround.
