Steelers aim to limit Cam Heyward snaps in 2026

Pittsburgh Steelers defensive tackle Cam Heyward, 37, is expected to see a reduced role in the upcoming season as the team seeks to preserve his health.

Beat writer Mark Kaboly said the Steelers plan to cut Heyward’s snaps by five to 10 percent in 2026. The move would build on his strong 2025 campaign, when he appeared in all 17 games and recorded 78 tackles along with 3.5 sacks.

Kaboly made the comments Friday on 93.7 The Fan’s The PM Team. He noted that the defensive line has added depth that could allow Heyward to stay fresher for December and January.

Rookie defensive lineman Derrick Harmon is viewed as one player who could absorb some of those snaps. Harmon played in 12 games last season after being selected 21st overall.

Kaboly cautioned that in-game situations often override such plans, leaving open the possibility that Heyward could still log heavy workloads.
