Team Power wins 2026 PEI women’s curling championship

Team Power secured the 2026 PEI Women’s Curling Championship with a 7-5 victory over Team Selkirk in the final at the Montague Curling Club. The win came after a tense match tied into the sixth end, earning the team a spot at the national Scotties Tournament of Hearts. Five teams from four Island clubs competed in a modified triple knockout format.

The 2026 PEI Women’s Curling Championship unfolded earlier this month at the Montague Curling Club, featuring five teams from four curling clubs across Prince Edward Island. Representing the field were Team Forestell from the Cornwall Curling Club, Team Morrow from the Crapaud Community Curling Club, Team Power and Team White from the Summerside Curling Club, and Team Selkirk from the Montague Curling Club.

The tournament employed a modified triple knockout format, offering various paths to the playoffs. Notably, Team Power and Team Selkirk faced off in all three qualifying games. Team Selkirk advanced by winning the A Qualifier, while Team Power dominated the B and C Qualifiers. This strong showing required opponents to defeat Team Power twice to eliminate them from contention.

The championship final proved a nail-biter, with the score level heading into the sixth end. Team Power then took the lead, maintaining control through the later ends to clinch a 7-5 win. The victorious squad consists of skip Amanda Power, along with Sabrina Smith, Emily Best, and Veronica Mayne, coached by Peter Gallant.

With the provincial crown, Team Power now advances to the national level. They begin competition on January 24 at the 2026 Scotties Tournament of Hearts, held at the Paramount Fine Foods Centre in Mississauga, Ontario. The event continues until February 1, with further details at the official Curling Canada site.
