Tesla offers 2,000 free supercharging miles for gas car trade-ins

Tesla has launched a new incentive in the US, providing 2,000 free Supercharging miles to customers who trade in a gas or hybrid vehicle for a new electric model. The offer aims to encourage the switch to electric vehicles, particularly for long-distance travel. Miles must be used within two years of delivery.

On November 4, 2025, Tesla introduced an updated free Supercharging promotion targeted at US drivers transitioning from gas or hybrid cars to electric vehicles. Customers who complete a trade-in for a new Tesla receive 2,000 complimentary Supercharging miles, accessible via Tesla's extensive network, which supports extended trips across the country.

The promotion's terms specify that the miles expire two years after the vehicle's delivery date and cannot be transferred, postponed, or redeemed for cash. Additional fees, such as congestion charges, remain applicable. The offer excludes used cars and business-to-business sales, and promotional miles may be revoked if the trade-in process fails. As stated in Tesla's conditions: “Promotion requires completed trade-in of a gas or hybrid vehicle and is subject to change or end at any time. Supercharging miles expire two years after delivery date and cannot be postponed, assigned or redeemed for cash. Supercharging-related fees, like congestion fees, still apply. Used cars and B2B sales not eligible. Promotional miles may be revoked if the trade-in cannot be completed for any reason. Actual miles may vary and is dependent on factors like driving behavior and environment. Terms and conditions apply.”

This incentive applies specifically to the Model 3, Model Y, and standard all-wheel-drive Cybertruck, as higher-end models like the Model S, Model X with the Luxe Package, and Cybertruck Cyberbeast already include free lifetime Supercharging.

Estimating the perk's value is challenging due to varying energy prices and vehicle efficiencies. For a Model Y with 3.5-4 miles per kWh, 2,000 miles equate to about 500-571 kWh. At an average $0.40 per kWh, this yields roughly $200 to $228, potentially higher for the Cybertruck AWD or lower for the Model 3. While not transformative, the offer provides a modest benefit for new EV adopters.
