Tides of Annihilation reveals new gameplay at Xbox Partner Preview

Fresh gameplay footage for Tides of Annihilation was showcased during the November 2025 Xbox Partner Preview, highlighting its Dual Frontline Battle System in an intense boss fight. The fantasy action-adventure game from Eclipse Glow Games blends modern London with Arthurian legend, where players control Gwendolyn and spectral knights. It is slated for release in 2026 on Xbox Series X/S, PC, and PlayStation 5.

Event Overview

The Xbox Partner Preview on November 20, 2025, featured new gameplay for Tides of Annihilation, first announced in February 2025 at PlayStation State of Play. The trailer demonstrated a boss battle against Tyronoe, who transforms into a bird-like beast and creates a mirrored alternate dimension called the Folded Realm. Players switch between realities to fight, with spectral knight Sir Lamorak assisting from the other side before being absorbed by protagonist Gwendolyn.

Gameplay Highlights

The Dual Frontline Battle System allows summoning up to four knights from the Round Table, each with unique abilities for combat customization. As lead producer Kun Fu explained to Xbox Wire, "Players will utilise different attacks of each knight in combat, as well as customise their configuration and abilities." Knights enhance Gwendolyn's powers, enabling chain attacks, time-stop, defensive shields, and simultaneous control in dual dimensions. The system emphasizes tactical freedom, letting players swap knights mid-combo.

Story and Inspirations

Set in a ruined London invaded by otherworldly forces, Gwendolyn seeks the Holy Grail to save her family and restore reality. The game fuses Arthurian lore with fantasy elements, including colossal knights to battle and fractured realms to explore. Kun Fu noted inspirations from films like Inception, The Matrix, and Doctor Strange, aiming to evoke "euphoria - a combination of excitement and dread" in boss fights.

Release Details

Tides of Annihilation is developed by Chinese studio Eclipse Glow Games and follows successes like Black Myth: Wukong. No exact date is confirmed beyond a 2026 launch on Xbox Series X/S, PC via Xbox, Epic, and Steam, and PlayStation 5.
