The city of Jaén is in mourning after the discovery of the lifeless bodies of two teenage friends in Concordia Park early Saturday morning. The National Police are investigating the circumstances, ruling out third-party involvement and pointing to a possible suicide. The City Council has declared three days of official mourning.
The bodies of the two minors were found around 1:30 a.m. in Concordia Park, located in central Jaén, after a call to the 112 Emergency Service from a person alerting about two young women "possibly deceased." National Police, Local Police, Firefighters, and medical services attended the scene, where the deaths were confirmed.
The Judicial Brigade of the National Police is investigating the case and, initially, rules out third-party involvement. Sources close to the investigation indicate that the bodies showed no evident signs of external violence, so the main hypothesis is suicide, although the autopsy will determine the exact cause. The court has ordered secrecy of the proceedings.
Shock is widespread in the city. "We are in shock, we can't believe it," said an employee of a nearby hotel establishment. Jaén City Council, led by Mayor Julio Millán, has declared three days of official mourning, from Friday night until Tuesday, December 2, with flags at half-mast on the main building. A minute of silence will be observed on Monday in memory of the deceased.
Millán lamented the tragic event and expressed condolences to the families, asking for respect and allowing security forces to work, as everything points to no third parties involved. Similarly, the Government Subdelegate in Jaén, Manuel Fernández, requested maximum respect for the minors and their families in these "extraordinarily tough moments."
This incident highlights the importance of suicide prevention, noting that most cases are preventable. Resources like the 024 hotline provide help for suicidal behaviors, and 112 for emergencies.
