Federico Valverde returned to training on Wednesday and hailed new Real Madrid coach Jose Mourinho as a special person. The captain expressed his desire for the team to end a trophy drought in the upcoming season.
Valverde spoke after his first session under Mourinho at the club's training base. He said he is looking forward to learning from the coach who led Madrid to the LaLiga title in 2011-12.
"He is a special person I can learn a great deal from," Valverde told Real Madrid TV. "I hope it's a wonderful season."
The Uruguay midfielder also discussed his role as captain. He described the position as an honour and stressed the team's shared goal of winning silverware to please fans after last season's trophyless campaign.
Madrid's first unofficial match under Mourinho is scheduled for a week on Friday against Albacete.
