The Vancouver Canucks announced on Saturday, November 15, 2025, that they have agreed to terms with 30-year-old center David Kampf on a one-year contract worth $1.1 million. General Manager Patrick Allvin highlighted Kampf's value, stating, “David is a very reliable two-way centre who will improve our strength and depth down the middle immediately. He is good in the faceoff dot and is a solid penalty killer, two areas of need we currently have on our team. His hockey IQ is also a big asset, and we believe he will fit in nicely with our group.”
Kampf's contract with the Toronto Maple Leafs was terminated after he cleared waivers on November 14. He had been waived before the season and assigned to the AHL's Toronto Marlies, where he played four games before stepping away on November 2, leading to a suspension without pay. The Leafs had signed him to a four-year, $9.6 million extension in 2023, but were unable to trade him due to his $2.4 million cap hit for the remaining season. Last year, Kampf recorded five goals and 13 assists in 58 games for Toronto, his lowest totals during his four-year tenure there.
Over his eight NHL seasons, split evenly between the Maple Leafs and Chicago Blackhawks, Kampf has amassed 143 points (48 goals, 95 assists) in 536 games. With Toronto, he posted 31 goals and 54 assists in 301 games, averaging 14:15 of ice time per night. Known as a penalty-killing specialist and bottom-six forward, Kampf joins Vancouver as its third NHL team ahead of his ninth season. The Canucks, dealing with injuries, view him as a serviceable two-way center. His deal expires after the 2025-26 season, making him an unrestricted free agent.
