Vice President Victoria Villarruel posted a message on X honoring resistance to the 1807 British invasions, seen as a critique of President Javier Milei's foreign policy, hours before coinciding with him at the Independence Day event in Tucumán.
Villarruel recalled the victory of the people of Buenos Aires over the British Empire in 1807. She noted that "the pirate force had 9 thousand experienced soldiers to take a city of 50 thousand inhabitants" and praised the people's defense.
The message was posted on Tuesday, July 7, one day before her trip to Tucumán. She will attend the event by invitation of Governor Osvaldo Jaldo, without sharing the stage with Milei.
Presidential Secretary General Karina Milei instructed protocol to keep the vice president separate. This marks the second similar episode after Flag Day in Rosario.
