Washington and Lee earns top ODAC indoor track honors

Washington and Lee University's men's and women's indoor track and field teams received multiple All-ODAC honors following the 2026 ODAC Indoor Championships. The Old Dominion Athletic Conference announced its men's and women's indoor track and field all-conference awards after the 2026 ODAC Indoor Championships in early March. For the women, Washington and Lee secured their second straight and third overall ODAC indoor title with 195.5 points, outperforming runner-up Lynchburg's 113 points. The Generals achieved six individual champions and 37 top-eight finishes across throws, jumps, sprints, middle distance, and distance events under head coach Dana Freeman, who was named ODAC Coach of the Year.

Senior Olivia Warr was selected as the ODAC Track Athlete of the Meet after winning the mile in a personal-best 5:07.63, the eighth-fastest time in program history, and defending her 3,000 meters title in a season-best 10:10.51. Senior Camille Gillum earned the ODAC/Virginia Farm Bureau Insurance Scholar-Athlete of the Year award, adding to her First Team All-ODAC high jump honor at 1.65 meters for her third conference crown. Gillum, a double major in Mathematics and Economics from Mountain Brook, Alabama, holds the program indoor high jump record at 1.66 meters and was a 2025 NCAA qualifier and two-time USTFCCCA Second Team All-American. Junior Elizabeth Sawicki represented the team on the All-Sportsmanship Team. The women totaled 22 All-ODAC honors, including six first-team selections such as Bailey Hedgemon in weight throw (17.35 meters), Jesma Evans in 400 meters (57.00), and Mad McMurphy in pole vault (3.63 meters).

On the men's side, the Generals placed second with 120.5 points, producing three individual champions and 27 top-eight finishes. First-year Macky Gartley was named ODAC Rookie of the Year after winning the 60-meter hurdles in a school-record, ODAC all-time record, and meet-record 8.04 seconds, ranking No. 8 in Division III and top among first-year competitors this season. He also placed fifth in the 200 meters (22.83 personal best) and helped the 4x400-meter relay to second in 3:21.75, breaking the previous championship record. Senior Keaton Rush received the ODAC/Virginia Farm Bureau Insurance Scholar-Athlete of the Year award, with Third Team All-ODAC in the 5,000 meters (third place, 14:45.02). A double major in Accounting and Economics from Devon, Pennsylvania, Rush is a two-time ODAC Scholar-Athlete in track and has four total including cross country in 2024 and 2025. He set the ODAC 10,000-meter record last spring at 29:37.51 and earned USTFCCCA All-Region honors. Sophomore Mark Freeman joined the All-Sportsmanship Team after a personal-best 7.04 in the 60-meter dash. The men had 10 All-ODAC selections across nine entries, led by three first-team honors: Gartley in hurdles, DJ McDonough in 800 meters (1:54.21), and Evan Langhammer in pole vault (4.73 meters).

Both teams will compete in final qualifiers aiming for the NCAA Indoor Championships in Birmingham, Alabama, on March 13-14.
