Maria Eduarda Rodrigues de Freitas, 21, died after being thrown without a safety rope from the Ponte do Esqueleto bridge in Limeira, in the interior of São Paulo state, on the morning of Saturday, June 13, 2026.
The victim fell from about 40 meters and suffered multiple traumas. Her death was confirmed on site by SAMU, which was called around 9:55 a.m. A video shared on social media shows instructors from the company Entre Cordas e Ih Voei throwing the young woman from the bridge without the safety rope.
Six people were detained by the Military Police at the scene. Two fled into a wooded area and were located with help from the Águia helicopter. Three remain in custody and will be investigated for homicide with eventual dolus. Among those detained are a civil firefighter and two assistants, aged 47, 32 and 27.
The Limeira city government announced it will sue the federal government for omission in controlling the abandoned bridge, which is used for extreme sports despite known risks. Mayor Murilo Félix said the municipality had requested action since 2025 without success. The Ponte do Esqueleto belongs to the Union and has recorded other deaths and accidents.
