130 volunteers train for Home Guard in Kosta

Around 130 volunteers are taking part in a five-week military training program in Kosta, Lessebo municipality.

The training forms part of the Swedish Armed Forces strategy to bolster the Home Guard. Participants come from across the southern military region and have no prior conscription experience.

FMU, voluntary military training, lasts five to six weeks and covers field and combat service, healthcare, weapons handling and laws of war. The Home Guard aims for 4 000 new soldiers by the end of the decade.

Company commander Alexander Pontén stresses that the exercises draw on long experience and risk controls. Participant Madeleine Heimark from Nybro looks forward to the shooting drills.
