A 15-year-old student died on Thursday after accidentally injuring his neck with a chainsaw during a training exercise at an agricultural school in the Drôme region.
The accident occurred mid-morning in a wood in the commune of Charols. Students from the private vocational school Sylva Campus de Montélimar were practicing wood cutting.
The chainsaw rebounded and injured the teenager at the carotid artery level. Firefighters were unable to resuscitate him on site.
Three supervisors and 17 students were present during the exercise. The Drôme prefecture confirmed it was an accident during a training activity. An emergency medico-psychological unit was activated for witnesses and families.
