Former WWE star AJ Styles has called for the company to enter the Japanese pro wrestling market, similar to its approach in Mexico with AAA. He made the comments during an appearance on The Phenomenally Retro Podcast.
Styles advocated for WWE to bring its brands together for major events while also venturing overseas. He said he wanted to see Raw, SmackDown, NXT and AAA featured under one roof at WrestleMania.
"Give me something over in Japan," Styles said. "Oh man, I would love WWE to find a way to be in Japan, kind of like the way AAA is. We're not changing what they're doing. We're not trying to change the culture. We're just putting our spin on it."
The retired wrestler, who competed for several years in NJPW, noted the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on Japanese promotions and expressed hope that they would recover. WWE currently maintains a partnership with Pro Wrestling Noah, where talents including Omos and Charlie Dempsey have appeared.
